About Boris
Boris Vujovich (pronounced Voo-yo-vich)
Boris was born in Radanovici, Montenegro (Former Yugoslavia). He studied in Industrial School in Kotor, Montenegro and is a self-taught artist. He came to the United States in 1971 and settled in Hightstown, NJ. He always had a love for art and had the opportunity to fully explore his interest to create art when he arrived in the United States.
For a time, Boris owned Star Art Gallery and Framing, which was located in Allentown, NJ. He not only painted original artwork but he also made custom framing. In addition, he helped local artists by displaying their art in his gallery. Unfortunately, the crisis of 9/11 devastated many local businesses in the area and he was forced to close up shop and later relocated to Stuart, FL. Boris experienced many setbacks over the years. Some of his artwork were destroyed in 2004 during Hurricane Frances and, about one week later, he was involved in a severe car accident that left him physically disabled with pain for many years. Also, in 2017, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer and is now in remission. In spite of all the adversities, he never lost his love for creating art.
His eclectic style of painting can be characterized as abstract art and abstract expressionism. Boris is inspired by what he calls “The Emotional Side”, which he considers beauty. He has a keen ability to capture and express deep emotion through his art. He engages in expressive and experiential painting. He does not have a set idea on the project and allows his emotional energy and subconscious to guide him in the creative process, using various mediums and materials. The finished work is "imperfectly perfect", which is a reflection of his personal philosophy of life. He compares life to a strong drink that contains sweet and sour, positive and negative, joy and pain. Boris has long been influenced by the writings of poet and philosopher Petar II Petrović-Njegoš from Montenegro, which depicts spiritual themes of human suffering but also fighting for freedom.
His most recent artwork has been birthed out of a very difficult season of life. In February 2019, Boris was diagnosed with endocarditis and sepsis. He needed open heart surgery for a double heart valve replacement and was on IV antibiotics for weeks. He survived, thanks to Dr. Brett Beecher (heart surgeon at Cleveland Clinic) and Dr. Moti Ramgopal (Associates in Infectious Disease).
Boris was standing on Heaven’s doorstep but God had other plans for him. He has more to accomplish here on Earth. Boris has risen again and again from the ashes. Though his recovery has been physically painful, his resiliency is now taking him on a unique spiritual journey in his artistic expression. He has converted his misfortune into inspiration.
